How To Make The Zine

Step 1: Printing the Zine

View the zine and use print icon to produce a single-sided copy.

Step 2: Creating Original Masters

It is possible to take the 18 pages of the handbook printout and turn them into a double-sided zine. This may be done by matching up the appropriate pages and taping their backs together. The outside cover and inside cover (containing the publication information) can be matched and taped together back-to-back with transparent tape at the edges to produce a double-sided master. The same procedure is to be followed with page:

32/1 and 2/31

30/3 and 4/29

28/5 and 6/27

26/7 and 8/25

24/9 and 10/23

22/11 and 12/21

20/13 and 14/19

18/15 and 16/17

The resulting 9 double-sided masters may then be used for the zine.

Alternatively: The double-sided masters may be created by printing the pages, then flipping them over and rearranging them and doing a second printing on the reverse side. This will result in two complete sets of masters. You may have to turn the pages upside down as well before printing. It may be best to experiment first with a few separate trial pages to get the pages oriented. Arrange the pages from the first print run in your printer to print the backs of the sheets in the following order:

inside cover

outside cover

2/31

32/1

4/29

30/3

6/27

28/5

8/25

26/7

10/23

24/9

12/21

22/11

14/19

20/13

16/17

18/15

Then carry out a second printing to produce the double-sided masters.

   Step 3: Reproduction

The resulting 9 master copy pages may now be photocopied double-sided, or the original masters themselves may be used for assembly. If desired the cover page may be photocopied onto coloured paper or cardstock to produce an attractive cover. If cardstock is used it may be necessary to score it lightly by running a blade down the outside cover’s centerline (13.9 cm or 5.5 inches from the outer edge) to facilitate later folding.

Step 4: Assembly

Congratulations! You may now assemble the zine. Begin by placing the cover page on top of a table with the inside cover side facing upward. Then place the double-sided pages on top of this in the following order with the indicated side facing up:

2/31

4/29

6/27

8/25

10/23

12/21

14/19

16/17

Once this has been completed flip it over, align the edges of the papers and staple the zine down the centerline (13.9 cm or 5.5 inches from the outer edge). Then carefully fold in half and press to create the final zine.
